This collection of scarves presents three truly unique scarf designs. They are part scarves, part jewelry, part wearable art. The versatility of each design is showcased by examples using two different sets of yarn selections. Included in the collection are two knit scarves and one scarf using Tunisian crochet. These scarves use big hooks and needles and require easy to intermediate skills. They use a variety of stitches and stitch patterns, simple color changes, simple finishing.
With Stitch Diva’s instructions and yarn recommendations you will have enough inspiration to create a decidedly different scarf of your own. For those days when you want to stand apart from the crowd, these scarves are a fun way to get noticed for your uncommon creativity and style — and a great way to use your novelty yarn stash!
Curlicue Ruffle Scarf (knit, pictured upper/lower left): This scarf is a very large curlicue which drapes in dramatic ruffles about the neck. In addition, it employs a squiggle technique for the last row so that the curlicue fabric is held in a flare and texture is added to the spiraled edge of the scarf. The Curlicue Ruffle Scarf pictured top left was created with 140 yards (1 ball) Rowan Kidsilk Haze, 120 yards (2 balls) Trandsetter Sunshine, and 98 yards (1 skein) Colinette Zanziba. The bottom left version was created with 140 yards (1 ball) Bernat Matrix, 196 yards (2 balls) Lion Brand Incredible (hold two strands together), and 120 yards (2 balls) Lion Brand Fun Fur. For both versions, you will need a US 13, 29″ Circular needle.
Brugmansia Scarf (knit, pictured upper/lower middle): Sculptural and flouncy, this scarf is worked in two halves that are grafted and seamed together to create a flared tube. A similar scarf in lighter gauge, sparkly yarn is also created and is set inside of the first to create a dimensional, layered and unique accessory to wear around the neck. The Brugmansia Scarf pictured top middle was created with 60 yards (1 skein) of Berroco Hip Hop, 87 yards (1 skein) Berroco Optik, and 82 yards (1 skein) Berroco Quest. The bottom middle version was created with 60 yards (1 ball) Patons Katrina, 87 yards (1 ball) Bernat Matrix, and 82 yards (1 ball) Patons Brilliant. You will also need scrap yarn for the provisional cast on and US 50 Knitting Needles.
Tunisian Scarf (Tunisian crochet, pictured upper/lower right): This scarf is worked long-ways in Tunisian crochet. Using a bulky yarn as its main component, it works up in under an hour and uses color change techniques to create a truly unique fabric. Ends of yarn are not woven into the scarf upon finishing, but kept dangling as fringe, contributing to the ease of scarf construction. The Tunisian Scarf pictured top right was created with 65 yards (1 ball) Tahki Ghost Print, 30 yards (1 ball) Crystal Palace Deco-Stardust, and 20 yards (1 ball) Fonty Serpentine. The bottom right version was created with 130 yards (1 ball) Patons Divine (hold 2 strands together), 30 yards (1 ball) Patons Brilliant, and 20 yards (1 ball) Lion Brand Fun Fur. You will also need a Q, 15″ Tunisian Crochet Hook, a size S or larger standard crochet hook, and coordinating beads.
